A ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 30 celebrated the newest The Hospitals of Providence Hospital, which officially opened in Horizon City, Texas, on Sept. 6 to serve patients in a region needing improved access to health care.

The Horizon City campus, 13600 Horizon Blvd., is a two-story hospital totaling 40,000 square feet and operates through a joint-venture partnership of The Hospitals of Providence and Emerus Holdings, the nation’s leading developer of micro-hospitals and the expansion partner of choice to leading health systems across the nation. It is designed to bring quality health care closer to where people work, live and play in Horizon City and the surrounding communities.

The Aug. 30 ribbon-cutting event attracted key community leaders such as Mayor Ruben Mendoza, Councilman and Former Mayor Walter Miller and Michael Hernandez, Executive Director of Horizon City’s Economic Development Corporation.

Emerus and The Hospitals of Providence recognize the importance of population health management. This includes increased access to high-quality, patient-centered health care, and is vital to the well-being of a community. Since 2000, Horizon City’s population has grown at a rate of 180 percent, and with that growth comes a greater need for a hospital, much like the new Horizon City Campus.

“I am confident our residents will benefit greatly from these committed health care innovators. We all look forward to seeing how this hospital benefits the Horizon City community in a great way,” said Mayor Mendoza.

This location will offer the same type of health care services that are typically found on a larger hospital campus. This includes an emergency department, inpatient unit, laboratory and imaging services, as well as medical offices for physicians and other health care providers.  The new facility will offer expanded health care services to the community with compassion, efficiency and excellence, while maintaining the highest standards for quality, safety and service.

“Health care services are scarce in Horizon City, so this new hospital addresses an important need. From an economic standpoint, the hospital employs 72 people, including about 30 nurses, and that’s expected to climb to about 100 people soon,” said Allie Lozano, CEO of The Hospitals of Providence’s Horizon City micro-hospital.
